This year, the opening ceremony of the IUS’s seventh academic year, will focus on the speech of Prof. Elena Granata, professor of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Polytechnic Institute of Milan, and assigned chair of the IUS course on "Places and relationships in the contemporary city".

Donald W. Mitchell, Professor Emeritus of Asian and Comparative Philosophy of Purdue University (Indiana - USA) will be guest of Sophia University Institute. The lectio magistralis he will be presenting entitled: "At the Frontiers of the Christian-Buddhist Dialogue".

Once again, the IUS opens its doors to present its own programs of formation. It will be possible to evaluate the projects of study and research being offered, and the professional possibilities and social commitments that could open up at the end of the period of formation.
The University of Notre Dame du Lac, Indiana (USA) will confer honorary doctor of laws degrees on Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, president of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, and Maria Voce, president of the Focolare Movement and Vice-Chancellor of Sophia University Institute.
After the grand success in May, we have on the calendar for November 25th to the 30th, the second week for sports ad physical activity, healthy nutrition, and good rest for those studying, as well as active pauses and sporting events at the IUS campus.
"On the Sense of Truth"
Emanuele Severino, philosopher and professor of Fundamental Ontology at the University of St. Raphael of Milan, professor emeritus of the University of Cà Foscari of Venice and professor of Theoretical Philosophy, History of Philosophy, and Logic and Sociology, will be guest of “Sophia’s Lectures”, the cultural appointment promoted by the IUS, taking place twice a year, open to the academic community and to all interested.

The first of May is a fixed appointment for many at Loppiano. There are various programs, forums and specific initiatives. The IUS will be present as well to present its own programs of formation, centered on that very culture of unity which this event endorses....
The IUS is a partner in a project intending to open paths towards a new humanism.

On the recurrence of the 5th anniversary of the death of Chiara Lubich, the Convention promoted by professors of various Italian and foreign universities belonging to the Focolare Movement, intends to recount some pages of an ‘unedited’ story of the 1900s’, full of innovative potential.

Enzo Bianchi, founder and prior of the monastic community of Bose, will be the guest of "Sophia Lectures", the cultural event promoted by the IUS, which takes place twice a year, open to the academic community and other interested parties.

Dr. Paolo Frizzi will be the first candidate to finish his Doctoral program at the IUS in Theology. The title of the dissertation he will present is: "Christianity and Religions in the Nineteen Hundreds: the Intuition and the Life Events of Chiara Lubich. Story, Theology, Society.”

Keynote speaker of the opening day for the fifth academic year is Dr. Pasquale Ferrara, General Secretary of the IUE (European University Institute of Fiesole) in Florence, and professor of Political Theory for the International Community at the IUS. The title of his address is: “Constitutive Peace: for an Integrative Reading of International Relations.”

The Sophia University Institute is one of the four sponsors of LoppianoLab 2012, with Città Nuova Editorial Group, the EoC Industrial Park (Economy of Communion) and the little city of Loppiano. Professor emeritus of Biblical, Jewish and Aramaic Philology at the University of Turin, Sacchi founded the Review and the Italian Association for the Study of Judaism. Expert on the history of Israel, he deepened different aspects of Ancient Judaism such as the Apocalypses, the manuscripts of Qumran and the Apocrypha of the Old Testament.
